Exterior view of the 1938-1940 W.P.A. project, Berthoud Hall, geology building, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Jefferson County, shows the three-story with basement brick Beaux Arts building with hipped red tile roof and decorative terra cotta brackets and trim. Two-story wing additions house, on the east, Department of Geophysics and, on the west, the Museum. Designed by Denver architect Temple Hoyne Buell and named for Edward R. Berthoud, Golden pioneer, Mines trustee, and professor.
