View to the northwest of the east side of Bates Hill as it descends to North Clear Creek in Black Hawk, Colorado; shows the processing mills that cover the creek to process ore from mines further up the gulch. Nathaniel Hill's Boston and Colorado Smelter occupies the near foreground with its large black stack; the notch between hills marks the entrance to Chase Gulch where miners resided and mined gold, quartz and heavy metals.
