View west on Gregory Street in Black Hawk, Colorado, after the flood of 1895; shows flood debris such as planks, posts, rocks, dirt and silt. Three men are holding shovels and working on clearing the street as water continues to pour past them in a small stream. There is a fire hydrant and flagpole (still standing) in the pile of debris. Many people are along the sidewalks and in the street. Four small boys are sitting on a log next to the flagpole. Visible stores include: Grocers, C. Miller's Cash Grocery, Trade Palace (in the Rohling Block); Hardware, Groceries, S. Tobolowsky; on the hill in the distance: Sleepy Hollow Mine. A train trestle traverses over Gregory Street which served as the first leg of the journey to Central City. Though only a mile away on foot, the train required a full four miles to negotiate the grade.
