Summary	A North American Indian (Ute) man confronts a prospector on a mountain slope in Utah or Colorado. The Ute man wears a necklace with a star pendant and holds a rifle. Men with rifles stand behind him. The prospector holds a pick axe, and looks over his shoulder. A ground-tied donkey has a saw buck saddle loaded with camp supplies. Portrait of Major Thomas T. Thornburgh, he has muttonchop whiskers, a moustache and wears a military coat with shoulder boards.
