Two unidentified men stand in the midground on a walkway of wood planks near the site where John H. Gregory first discovered gold at Mountain City near Central City, Colorado, in 1859. The site was marked with a bronze plaque on July 23, 1932 commemorating Gregory's historic discovery. Several houses stand on a hill in the background behind the men. The Cook Mine shafthouse stands near the top of the hill.
