The large Byers House stands near the Colorado River (formerly the Grand River) in Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado. W. N. Byers, publisher of the Rocky Mountain News, purchased 160 acres, including the hot springs, for about $55,000 in 1864; additional houses and buildings are near the river. A wagon is stopped on the far shore behind some shrubs. Trees stand in the foreground on the near shore of the river. Two short, stone towers stand in the water.
