Portrait of a Tenth Mountain Division soldier, either the photographer or possibly Shaw, in a fox hole. He is holding a knife with both hands; piles of equipment are arranged on both sides of the foxhole cut steep into the hillside. The equipment pictured includes: a helmet, blankets, clothing, rifles, knapsacks, and a quiver of arrows. The ground cover looks yellow and dry; the leaves on the trees are orange.
