Summary
A
large
structure
with
two
arch
openings
was
built
to
celebrate
the
opening
of the
Gunnison
Tunnel
in
Montrose
,
Colorado
.
It
is
draped
in
Americana
and has
two
pictures
of
President
Taft
next
to the
numbers
commemorating
the
date
(1909)
. At the
top
is
a "
Welcome
"
sign
,
beneath
which
is
printed
, "
Gunnison
Tunnel
Opening.
"
Hay
bales
and
pumpkins
are
wrapped
around
the
bottom
of the
legs
of the
arches
. The
road
is
empty
except
for
litter
and
small
groups
of
people
.

read

potatoes
for
1909
are
worth

. With
Gunnison
Water
the
crop
of
1910
shoud
be

middle
leg
: "
Cattle
and
sheep
shipments
brought
$450.000
in the
county
last
year.
" And on the
third
leg
: "
We
do
not
hunt
the
markets
the
markets
come
to
Montrose
. The
fruit
crop
of
1909
is
worth
$450.000
and
is
now
moving
.
1910
will have
700
acres
of
new
bearing
orchard.
