Summary
View east of the Western Union Telegraph and Cable Office, and depot at Alpine Tunnel, (11,545 feet), Gunnison County, Colorado shows the small dilapidated front gable clapboard structure, rooftop sign, "Alpine Tunnel" remains of a railroad signal hang out above door and an abandoned track in front of building. A two-story boarding house, built by the Colorado and Southern after the turn of the century, is beside the office. A rocky slope shows behind the structures. Site was at one time a station stop outside tunnel through Continental Divide built by the Denver South Park & Pacific Railroad in 1881-1882.
