Title	Alpine Tunnel, Western Union Telegraph & Cable Office (taken at time owned by Colorado & Southern
Summary	Exterior view of the Western Union Telegraph and Cable Office, Alpine Tunnel, (11,545 feet) Gunnison County, Colorado, features the small front gable clapboard structure with sign on roof apex "Alpine Tunnel." Snow covers the roof and icicles hang on the eaves; a ladder and shovel lean against building and a railroad signal hangs out above the door. A two-story boarding house, built by the Colorado and Southern after the turn of the century, is beside the office. The town was at one time a station stop outside the tunnel through the Continental Divide, built by the Denver South Park & Pacific Railroad in 1881.
