Summary	The town of Basalt, Colorado, is nestled in a valley near the Fryingpan River in Eagle County, Colorado. The view of First Street, below, shows simple, wood-frame, houses with gables and chimneys lining the dirt road. The train depot, roundhouse, engines, cars, and tracks of the Colorado and Midland are at the edge of town along Railroad Street (Main Street) where the trains emit puffs of white smoke. Trees grow in the valley in the background, and the mountains that surround the town are in the distance.
