Exterior view of the Iron Springs Hotel in Manitou Springs, Colorado, looking southwest. This 65 room hotel was the first to have electric lights, when its own water powered turbine became operational in 1885. It boasted electric lights and call bells in every room, an excellent table, a permanently engaged orchestra, and no cheap or excursion rates. It features hipped gabled roofs, clipped dormers, chimneys, wrap around porches, and a central projecting square tower with clipped gable roof. On the dirt road in the foreground are two men and a boy each standing by a 'high-wheeler' bicycle. A summer tent is in the upper right, and power lines cross the image. In the background are the scrub and rock dotted hills of Ruxton Canyon.
