Summary	View looking northwest at the Columbian Hotel, built in 1879, Trinidad, Colorado. This three story brick and stone structure features bracketed cornices and a mitred entry with a curvelinear pediment. Colonettes and palmettes on the pediment enclose lettering that reads: "The Columbian Hotel." Glass brick surrounds the doorway in the mitred corner. Two projecting sheet metal and neon signs on the western wall read: "Lounge Columbian Lounge Good Food" and "Jolton's Sells it for Less." Originally called the Grand Union Hotel, this building was renamed in honor of the Columbian Exposition in the 1890's, and boasted over 100 sleeping rooms, a lavish saloon and ballroom, a barber shop, gambling rooms and a formal dining room.
