Notes
Formerly F29386.; Formerly F298; Formerly X-11000224; Formerly X-21810; Letter from the Ellsworth County Historical Society, Kansas, sleeved with photoprint; describes image with printed legend: "D & B Powers Train of Leavenworth at Denver" and "Williams & M'Donald, photographers;"..."The legend is in error. The owner of the train was David Bruce Powers who went by D.B. or Bruce...at time of picture lived in Leavenworth. If he was in Denver with the train he did not leave with it. After unloading their supplies the men, all hired drovers, [sic] hired out to cut and haul hay south of Denver.; Photoprint shows creases, tears, and is soiled.; There was an Indian attack and the mules were either killed or driven off. Bruce Powers tried unsuccessfully to get reimbursement from the government but his claim was refused because he was not with his train at the time of the attack and it was not on its regular route between Ft. Leavenworth and Denver..."; Title supplied by cataloger; photographer penciled on back,; date of photograph from accompanying letter.; R7110002241
