The new, three and one-half story Central City Clark School, built in 1901 for the elementary grades, has a hipped roof, a front dormer window, and rectangular windows with decorative brickwork over the top. Steps lead to the entrance on the side of the building. A pipe fence surrounds the schoolyard. The old Central City school, completed in 1870, sits on the hill above the new school. The two story, Italianate building with cupola and arched windows was one of the first permanent schoolhouses in Colorado. In 1901, the old school became the Central City high school. The steeple of St. Paul's Episcopal Church is in the background.
