Label typed on back of print: "The first camp of the Happy Valley Placer Co., Grand Island Mining District. Photograph was made about 1892, in the early summer. (Placer was located in Sept. 1891) Leaning on the fence, left side of picture, is John H. Kemp, discoverer of the Placer. August Mathez, the engineer who made the original survey of the Placer, stands behind the transit. Mr. John Younglove, Bowling Green Ky., an old friend of Mr. Kemp, leans against the fence in rear of Mr. Mathez. The other men in the photo are unknown. This camp stood on what is now the site of Penrose Lodge, just west of Eldora.; Title supplied by cataloger.; R7100627007
