Summary
Exterior view of Walter Scott Cheesman's residence (later called Cheesman-Evans-Boettcher mansion & Governor's mansion), 400 East 8th (eighth) Denver, Colorado; Colonial Revival architecture with formal portico topped with balustraded balcony, two-story Ionic columns, dentiled eaves, gabled dormers & tall chimneys, partial view of formal gardens designed by George Kessler; original architectural design begun by Gove & Walsh, Cheesman died in 1907, his widow Alice & daughter Gladys hired Marean & Norton to complete it in 1908; wedding of John Evans & Gladys Cheesman took place within and they lived there until 1911; Mrs. Alice Cheesman remained in residence until her death in 1923 and home was sold to Claude & Edna Boettcher where they lived until after their deaths in 1957 & 1958 respectively; Boettcher Foundation donated residence to the state of Colorado for use as Governor's residence, first used as "Governor's Mansion" in 1960; window awnings, six-foot-high wrought iron fence.
