Saint Elmo, Chaffee County, Colorado, consists of frame dwellings and businesses lining dirt street. One building is either in ruins or under construction; the structure with the "X" drawn under it is the American House, a hotel. Saint Elmo was once the center of the Chalk Creek mining district. Homes and mountain scenery are in the background.
