Tracks and grade of the Denver & Rio Grande narrow gauge Railroad cut through hillside near Poncha Springs, Chaffee County, Colorado. A rail fence encloses one of the numerous hot springs in the area. Name "Poncha" is an adaptation of "Poncho" (Sp. "paunch" or "belly") after a local mountain formation; also said the name derives from a local tobacco substitute, called "Poncha" by the Arapaho.
