View east on Leadville, Colorado's Chestnut Street with Carbonate Hill in the background includes a dirt street lined predominantly with wood frame false fronts of varying sizes, which create a stair step effect. The two-story "Grand Hotel" in the right foreground features a flat hipped roof with gabled attic dormers and a balcony with a decorative balustrade. Other businesses include "Marx Bros. O.K. Clothing" "Hayes & Wood Assayers" "Leadville Candy Factory" "The Pioneer" "Boots & Shoes" "Meat Market" "Sample Room" "Pioneer Store" "Chas Mater" "Drug Store" "Hotel Windsor" and the "Coliseum." Horse-drawn wagons are on the street and there are painted striped posts along the boardwalks. A stone building is under construction in the distance. Log structures and tents on Carbonate Hill are a part of the mining operation there.
