1830
. In his
early
years
,
Juan
freighted
for the
U.S
.
Army
making
annual
trips
to
St
.
Louis
,
Missouri
hauling
freight
for the
Fort
Garland
Army
Post
. He
married
María
Quirina
Sánches
and they
raised
their
daughter
Magdalena
in the
confines
of the
Purgatory
Canyon
. He
established
Red
Rocks
Plaza
(known
as
Piedras
Coloradas)
,
referred
to as the
Cordova
Plaza
. The
Plaza
was
composed
of an
extended
family
with
Juan
serving
as
patron
. He
relocated
to
Hoehne
and
Model
,
Colorado
, and in
1910
the
plaza
was
abandoned.
