View looking across heavily vegetated hills at the Cherokee Ranch and Castle near Sedalia in Douglas County, Colorado. The Castle was built between 1924 and 1926 by Charles Alfred Johnson (he named it Charlford) and designed by Burnham Hoyt. The structure's exterior is ryohlite with architectural details from English and Scottish castles. The castle and ranch was purchased by Tweet (Mildred Montigue Genevieve) Kimball in 1954 and renamed Cherokee Castle. In 1996 she founded the Cherokee Ranch & Castle Foundation and sold Cherokee Ranch in a conservation easement to Douglas County. The ranch is on the National Register of Historic Places (1994).
