1-20-72 Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods Board Meeting
Board Members present: Bob Bowlby, John Powell,
Ada Pisher, Ed Sibert, and Joe Murray
Guests present: Mike Casey, Jim James, John Ahrens,
Eddie Hanes, Cathy Donohue, Pat McClerran, Helan Amter,
Dennis Sousa, Prudence Sousa
1 - A motion was made by Joe Murray, and seconded by John Powell
that Eddie Hanes be chosen to fill the vacancy on the board left
by Phil Weiser. Carried unanimously.
2 - Jim James reported that Warren Methodist Church is going ahead
with plans for a ninety-six unit, low-cost housing structure between
13th. and 14th. Avenues on Gilpin Street. They are seeking a variance
as they will be deficient about fifty parking spaces. John Powell
motioned to support the variance, and Joe seconded it. It carried
unanimously, and John Powell will speak before the Board of Adjustment
on January 25, 1972.
3 - Pat McClerran on behalf of the Park People asked our support in
their efforts to clean up elm wood branches, in that we would help
to distribute pamphlets informing people of the procedures set up.
The motion to help was made my Eddie Hanes, and seconded by Bob Bowlby.
It carried unanimously, and then was amended by John Powell that it
would be carried out "to the best of out ability", which also carried
unanimously.
There is to be a training meeting for volunteers on February 10, 1972,
at 7:30 p.m. at the Botanic Gardens Education Room.
4 - Ed Sibert reported that there are two positions open■on the
Urban Renewal Board, and that we urge Mayor McNichols that people
be chosen who 1) are of tenant interest, and 2) an urban renewal
resident. A motion to this effect was made by John Powell, seconded
by Joe Murray, and carried unanimously.
It was brought up that the Urban Renewal Committee is going ahead
to reaffirm the Hospital Park Plans.
5 - NEXT BOARD MEETING - February 3, 1972 Police Storefront

6 - Ed Sibert introduced plans for the formation of a Capitol
Hill Home Maintenance Cooperative. Items discussed were:
1) a paid executive secretary, 2) same board of directors as CHUN,
3) adopt a basic budget, with cutouts allowable, 4) establish an
escorole account should there be no follow through, 5) $15.00 be an
amount set,to be spent by the treasurer without a pole of the board,
6) monthly reports of the treasurer and membership chairman be given,
7) authorization granted to Ed Sibert to enter into business membership
proposals.
