Winterfest on the Hill celebrates holiday spirit
City sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in holiday style...sound familiar? The opening line to the
Christmas carol "Silver Bells" aptly describes the goal of Winterfest on the Hill. This month long, holiday
celebration is designed to create all inclusive holiday events that celebrate the unique character of the
Capitol Hill neighborhood and strengthen the spirit of community. Activities will include the annual
Victorian House Tour, CHUM Church Tour, Christmas on Colfax sidewalk sale, toy and food drive and
holiday lighting contest.
The diversity of the Capitol Hill neighborhood lends itself well to the creation of a holiday event that
reaches beyond the traditional and strives to be inclusive of all. This is the third year of a collaborative
effort from several community groups. Winterfest offers a lot of potential and opportunity to build upon for
future years. Organizers are hopeful that other groups in the community will hop on the holiday
bandwagon and bring new ideas, traditions, history and culture to future Winterfests.

CHUN is hoping to parlay its success with the People's Fair into the community-oriented Winterfest.
