There's still time to
enter contest
It is very gratifying to me that
so many of you nice folks have
taken time to v/rite in suggestions
for a name for our new publication. That is the way I had hoped
it would be. Since this is a neighborhood paper the more of you
that can contribute something to
it the more we will all get out of it.
Someone only needed to get it
started now it is up to all of you
to help keep it rolling. Among the
many letters received there was
one which I am going to let you
all read for it expresses what I so
strongly feel.
Denver, Colorado.
Feb. 19th, 1954.
Here is my entry.
Call it Friendly, or Friendship
letter.
I have lived in my neighborhood
for nine years.
I am 85 years old and have recently had a slight stroke and I
have found that my neighborhood
stores hold many very wonderful
friends. The block from Emerson
to Clarkson on 17th Avenue hold
the nicest people I have ever met,
all of them. When people are so
good to old people it is greatly appreciated.
I don't know whether you can
read this letter as I am almost
blind, but I couldn't resist giving
them this message. I trade at all
these stores, Dry Goods Store sisters, Meat Market, the Anchor
Grocery — Ray, Jewelry Store,—
Ken Siewart, Beck's Bakery, and
the Drug Store on the corner of
Washington and 17th, who are
advertised in your little pamphlet.
I cannot walk more than 2
blocks at a time, so depend on
them, and they have been wonderful to me.
Mrs. Florance A. Walker,
1721 Emerson,
Phone TA 9908.
Thanks for that wonderful letter Mrs. Walker. I know that the
rest of you folks will find that
(Continued on Page 5)
diowdi^ Vbriqhb&i,
Meet Joe Abell one of the owners
of The Washington Laundry and
Dry Cleaners. Joe is a native Den-
verite, attended Denver Public
Schools, South High and Colorado
College, where he majored in Geology, graduating in 1942.
After college he spent four years
in the Navy. He worked several
years in the Geological department
of the Shell Oil Company but the
constant moving around didn't fit
in with raising a family, so five
years ago he decided to go into
business with his brother, Jerry,
as a partner in the Washington
Laundry.
Joe is fond of all sports, especially fishing. Having lost track of
many of his old friends, he invites
them to drop around and renew
their friendship. Joe and Jerry
also welcome new friends and a
chance to show them their modern
laundry and new dry cleaning
plant.
I want to apologize to the many
business men and women in the
neighborhood that I did not have
time to call on before this publication went to press. I am sure there
are more who would like to participate. I will call as soon as I can.
If you are interested Call MA.
9245 and I will be glad to give you
full details.
Les Baile.
