To Modify  PARkiNq  Structure
CHUN and OMNI (Organization for Midtown Neighborhood ImDrovement) have asked United
Bank of Denver to modify its proposed design for a parking structure at 17th and Sherman
Street. OMNI is a neighborhood organization in North Capitol Hill. The proposed parking
structure would accompany the bank's 52-storey office tower slated to be built at 17th
and Lincoln.
CHUN and OMNI have met with
officials from United Bank and stressed
the need to be involved in the preliminary design work, particularly through
meetings with the architects. We are
especially concerned about the encroachment of downtown Denver into the
neighborhood and the need to mitigate
the resulting impacts.
The bank has been asked to address
concerns about safety and the need to
maintain the local residential and
pedestrian character through the
inclusion of ground floor retail and
neighborhood uses. Other major concerns with the structure include the
the demolition of 74- moderately priced
rental units, a possible bridge
across Sherman Street which would
obstruct one of the last two remaining
unobstructed views of the Capitol, and
the traffic congestion and visual impact created by the multi-storied
parking structure.

House Tour Taking Shape;
Focus To Be 17th Avenue
Plans are being finalized for CHUN's
Annual House Tour to take place on
Sunday, September 28, 1980. Specifics
on the homes to be toured will be available in mid-August.  Oust as in the past,
the success of the tour will depend to a
great extent on the volunteers who help
during the tour.  People are needed to act
as house captains and guides for each
of the homes.  If you are interested in
volunteering a few hours of your time on

MOUNTAIN MEETING

last year, CHUN has had a retreat in the
