JB§R _ A PUBLICATION BY CAPITOL HILL UNITED NEIGHBORHOODS INC may 1974 planning the neighborhood Margaret Sperling, neighborhood planner, announces that the Capitol Hill and Chessman Park Neighborhood Plans are completed and were accepted by the Mayor recently. Early in May, 1973* a 15 member citizens' advisory group was formed to work with Ms. Sperling in the development of a neighborhood plan. This advisory board included representatives from the major civic associations and interested groups in the neighborhood. The group participated in meetings which focused on land use and zoning, transportation, environment, public facilities and services and general socio-economic problems. After initial preparation of the proposed plan, a larger neighborhood meeting was held. Suggestions and recommendations were analyzed and integrated into the plan prior to presentation to the Planning Board for adoption. The purposes of the plans are to provide an official guide to the future development of the neighborhood for use by the Denver Planning Office, the Denver Planning Board, the Mayor, the- City Council and other concerned governmental agencies, residents, property owners and businessmen of the community, private organizations concerned with planning and neighborhood improvement, etc. The plan will also provide an officially approved reference to be used in connection with action on various City development matters as required by law. These plans represent guidelines for future planning and development in our area. They contain factual information about the neighborhood and recommendations for change. These plans do not have the force of law and they need government commitment and citizen action and follow-up to be effective. These plans were approved by the Planning Board in November and still have to be adopted by City Council. Presently the Planning Staff is working on the Congress Park Neighborhood Plan. Citizen input is welcomed. Citizens may get full copies of these plans by writing to CHUN, P.O. Box 18575,- or the Denver Planning Office, c/o Margaret Sperling. Our special thanks and appreciation to Ms. Sperling for her commitment and concern for our area. All of us who know her realize that she does much more than her job "requires".
